About the Centre

History, Vision, and Goals

The International Centre for Migration and Border Security Studies emerges as the result of former border security officers turned academics meeting with applied migration and border security scholars during the April 2019 Borders in Globalization conference in San Diego, California. Over the course of this conference, this international group identified the need to establish a global community of scholar-practitioners â€“– the aim being to support migration and border security studies to become a distinctive field of research and scholarship. Reflective of the way globalisation has expanded national borders from the physical to virtual realms, this online centre serves as a virtual medium through which migration and border security practitioners and scholars (including graduate, postgraduate, and research higher degree students) from around the world can connect, collaborate, and discover.
